Winter Activities
930 - 2466 metres
Snow dependent you can ski to and from the
chalet 300m to the local lift
system of
L'Essert, a small resort with 9 lifts and 13 pistes, ideal for
finding your ski legs or for families and children. This area is
usually quiet - so you get lots of skiing. Alternatively you can take a 10 minute free
bus ride (included in the ski pass) to the main Portes du Soleil
ski
area which has 650km of piste, 14
resorts, 288 slopes and 209 lifts. The Portes du Soleil, connects the two countries
of France and Switzerland and the seven ski resorts of
Abondance, Avoriaz, Chatel, Morzine, Les Gets, Champery and Torgan.
From Chatel & Super Chatel the lifts link into the quiet Torgon
area or you can take the clockwise route through Switzerland via
Morgins & Champery to Avoriaz.
There are numerous cross country skiing tracks, some 50kms in Val
d'Abondance alone. An additional 35kms of sign posted walking trails
around the area offer a different challenge.
The ESF ski school in Abondance has 10
instructors; there are larger ski schools in Chapelle d'Abondance
and Chatel.
The Ski Surf Ecole International in Chatel has many English
speaking instructors.
All the usual skiing equipment,
cross country skis and snow shoes can be hired locally from Didier
Bouvet Sports in the centre of Abondance.
