Chalet Abondance is located in
beautiful and quiet hamlet of Frogy (see
video) near the village of Abondance in the Haute
Savoie region of France within the Portes du Soleil ski area and
close to the border with Switzerland.
The accommodation
consists of a ground floor Studio Apartment sleeping up
to 5 persons and a 1st/2nd floor Apartment sleeping up to 6 persons.
Abondance is not only a good
winter resort but a good all year round resort eg. walking,
climbing, mountain biking, paragliding, kayaking, rafting etc.
The
village of Abondance, only a few minutes walk away, has a Tourist
Information centre and a good selection of bars, restaurants and
shops.
This is a valley with a strong natural character : an amazing
untouched site, a protected setting between Lac Léman (Lake Geneva)
and the Chablais mountains. A land of art and history which has
managed to preserve its architectural treasures and mountain
traditions.
Traditional farming
methods provide such pleasures as visits to dairies or tasty
farmhouse meals. The valley is the birthplace of the “Abondance”
cow which produces milk to make cheese of the same name (AOC
listed).
The area’s heritage
is equally abundant for, throughout the ages, the valley has
protected treasures such as Notre Dame Abbey with its cloisters as
well as its traditional wooden and stone alpine chalets, with their
carved balconies.
La Maison du Val:
focusing on Abondance cheese, this eco-museum will take you on a
tour of this region’s characteristics, its history and country
life.
Chalet Abondance is
jointly owned by Bob & Denise Park and John Campbell and Lesley
Hulett. Bob has been a professional potter all of his adult life and
runs a workshop/gallery at Greystoke
Gill in Cumbria. John has been a
full-time watercolour
artist for 20 years and shares Sharp
Edge Gallery in Keswick, with 2
other artists.
